From a UI standpsomeoint, there is enough information floating around that I'd definitely like some way to see more of it at a go. Sounds like the previous version provided something along those lines. I was recently looking at the Trello project management tool (https://trello.com/) and some of it's approaches might work well for what superbetter is doing. Kahn Academy (http://www.khanacademy.org) also seems to deal with a lot of information well. As time passes and users have more activities and allies and maybe even multiple different goals they are pursuing, the current superbetter interface doesn't seem to scale well.

This has been a great conversation, and we appreciate the different perspectives offered here in the comments. We’ll keep these notes in mind when we approach future video content.

Don't confuse describing reactions people have had or observed and suggesting that some things may not come across as intended with "trolling" or "insecurity". The point of feedback is to provide information about the site and how well it achieves its intended aims, from the perspective of people making use of it. This thread most certainly should NOT have died. If there are people who might use the site but are discouraged because of their reactions to aspects of it, that is valuable and essential information to the people building and promoting the site. It doesn't necessarily mean they should change anything, but it is important that they should be aware of such reactions.

I've had a number of people react in exactly the same way. Both to the image presented and to the videos themselves -- as a guess it may be that they seem short and superficial, almost trivializing whatever they were addressing.

This is in marked contrast to the responses I've seen when people watch Jane's TED talk.

I agree -- this is a source of frustration -- to get an email and then want to see it in context, but have a hard time finding the change. Highlighting changes since you last viewed your activity would help a lot (think unread email). Another possibility would be to re-position any activity entry to the top of the list when an ally has commented on it or "liked" it.

The more specific the power pack, the more specialized research we need and the more specialized experts we need to find. We’re certainly in the process of building out our Power Pack library, but the more specific, the more time it takes, as a general rule :)

Of course. Have you got any crowd-sourcing plans in place for this? If you could mine the quests/powerups/badguys/etc. created by users, that could be a rich source. There are privacy concerns, of course.

If you wanted to avoid privacy issues, you could give users a button that allows them to nominate a quest/powerup/etc. they've created for general use. If there was a pool of these available that other users could choose to add for themselves or (as allies) for their heroes, then simply tracking how popular such things are would be a powerful filtering tool. (If you could, additional information such as what were the challenges they were added for, how often they were used, maybe even add a button so users can "1+" powerups/quests/etc. if they wish.

Along with the "push" method of allowing users to nominate things for general use, that would also allow them to edit the text/names/etc. specifically for general consumption rather than personal use -- if they wish to.

An approach like this could leverage your specialized experts more for filtering/review so their time could go a little farther. You would also have a large pool contributing to the titles and texts for your powerpacks -- that creativity would be a valuable contribution. Even if you have essentially the same thing with different names/wording it might appeal to different groups of people and be more or less effective with different subgroups.

    Hi Steve,

I just reset the controls for the user profiles in the forums, so all the fields should allow for longer input. As for starting on the “Visitor Messages” tab, that is the way the forum software is set up – I’ll investigate it, but it may not be customizable. :) Thank you!

    Cheers,
    Jessica.

    Hi Cara,

If you click on your name on your HQ, this will take you to your profile, where there is a left-side link for Achievements. It is a bit buried, so we’ll keep this in mind for future development! Please let me know if you have any trouble!

There is a thread in the forums about this topic, too.

One thing that threw me when I was looking for the achievements was that as an Ally, "Achievements" appears in the navigation list on the left. As a hero, it's hidden up as a drop-down under your name. I really expected to see it in the same place as a Hero as I did as an Ally.

This seems a bit flukey (we’re not able to reproduce getting sent to your own info when you’re in ally mode) – but we totally agree that ally mode needs some serious TLC. That’s why we’re redesigning it from the ground up – stay tuned!

Hmmm. Maybe I am mistaken about this. I thought the resilience did this, but it have been a misleading coincidence. OTOH, if I can be unclear on whether I am looking at my information or that of a hero I am ally for, then that suggests a need for more visible distinction between the two modes.

    Hi Steve,

Allies can indeed create their own secret identities! They simply have to click on their own name when viewing their Ally Dashboard, and then they’ll be able to enter a secret identity. Please let me know if you need further help with this. :)
