Cryptonite
Some bad guys are trivial enough, minions really, that they can be tackled quite easily: a simple bounce for your typical goomba. But other enemies require a bit more strategy, so why not list some weaknesses/hints/cheats?
A text field could prompt users to enter effective strategies and ineffective ones. And when all else fails and the battle is still lost, users can opt out and use their "get out of jail free card".
A little something like this
Bad Guy: The Insomniac
Weakness: Cold Shower, Reading in bed, Chamomile Tea
...............Battle Results...............
( ) Fail
( ) Win
( ) Vanquish
( ) Retreat! (only one remaining)
A lot of people have been asking for the ability to have a list of power-ups that are effective against certain bad guys – this is a fun way to do it :)
So is the idea behind a retreat that it’s basically a fail but we don’t count it as a fail in your scoreboard?

Thanks I'm glad you like it.
Yeah, the retreat would not show up as a loss, but only so many are allowed depending on... well I guess someone might want to come up with some reasonable numbers that have some significant scientific data to back them up. Maybe not calling it retreating but "fight another day" would be a better attitude (i.e. lose the battle, win the war).
But the "retreat" idea comes from the fact that SuperBetter actually tells its users to write down a "one free screw up" coupon for themselves (or at least if you're doing the Meditation Power Pack).
