Thank you! And a suggestion
I thought I'd show you what I wrote in my diary when I started SuperBetter. It's been such a validating and encouraging way of working through my Chronic Fatigue and attendent depression.
"Waking up didn’t work so well today. Pippin pounced and dug at me for a couple of hours (the brat — he almost never does that). Maybe he knew I wasn’t inclined to get out of bed and worried about his breakfast. So I fed him and then went back to bed. Eventually I got myself to work, mostly by self-talk and stubbornness. And then sat in my office crying for a while out of exhaustion and frustration and shame.
I convinced myself to take my mind off things by watching a TED talk or two, and by sheer coincidence the one that had just landed in my feed reader was Jane McGonigal’s talk about her game “SuperBetter.” So I signed up and started doing the little quests. I feel a lot better now.
It’s really interesting (and validating) that SuperBetter operates by making people do all the tiny little things that I’ve arrived at as my “climbing mount everest” plan of action. When I went to that ill-fated therapist 2 years ago, this is what I was asking her for, very explicitly. When I stopped going to see her and decided to do that for myself, this is what I arrived at. And since I love knowing the science behind things, it was really rewarding to see that the little strategies I invented are backed up by study after study after study.
I’m still really limp, and I can feel the tears lurking at the back of my throat just waiting to pounce, but that was a pleasant hour or so.
Which makes me realize another “power up” that I can add to that game: Leaning the science behind making myself better."
So thank you!!
Some things about the site are still a bit buggy (occasionally links stop linking to anything, for example) and I find the navigation a little hard sometimes when I'm getting into and out of the secret lab area or when a Bad Guy references a specific Power Up and I have to do a bunch of clicking to get to that Power Up. It'd be great if there were some internal links for that kind of thing.
But, mainly I want to say thank you.
